Pumpin House & Nu Disco Reworks From Mousse T, KDA, Danny Krivit & Alan Dixon - In times of trouble and uncertainty music can provide great relief for the soul, and DAVIE’s triumphant Defected debut ‘Testify’ does exactly that. A joyous introduction to the Brooklyn artist, this 12’’ remix package demonstrates an ability to strike the balance between classic and contemporary sounds seamlessly. Now, the record DAVIE himself describes as, “a dance song, not a gospel song,” gets four brand new remixes. Up first on the A side, Peppermint Jam boss Mousse T. plays to the gospel elements of the original, with deep, powerful chords and rhythmic claps, bringing a snapping groove to the cut. Next, London talent KDA goes for a clubbier sound, looping the vocal and raising the BPM. On the flip, undisputed master of the disco edit Danny Krivit delivers his sublime club-friendly version, extending the original Danny maintains the feel, with subtle adjustments that give it a more refined sound. Finally, Alan Dixon’s funk-fuelled remix follows, with melodic keys and irresistible horns.
Had it not been for the cursed pandemic, Davie's 'Testify' - a righteous fusion of neo-soul, gospel and nu-disco - would have been an anthem throughout the many festivals dotted around the Adriatic and the Mediterranean. Here the superb original is twisted into even more celebratory new dancefloor shapes across another essential EP. Mousse T sets the tone by turning it into a jazzy, percussive and stomping chunk of disco-house pleasure, before KDA re-imagines it as a thrusting, hard-edged house loop jam that wisely showcases Davie's inspired bassline. Over on the flip, Danny Krivit gets out his scalpel and successfully extends the mid-tempo original, while Alex Dixon pops a pill or two and reworks it into a rushing piano-house special.
