James Joseph Dickens II (born June 11, 1994), known professionally as Whitenoise, is an American rapper, songwriter, graphic and website designer. Acknowledged with bringing the hip hop industry to Toledo, Ohio, a city notoriously known as the Glass City. Whitenoise’s local achievements have helped him push barriers, most independent artist wouldn’t fathom. Most think his name is controversial with him being a Caucasian male and having white in his name but it’s actually nothing more than a pun. White Noise is actually a sound that drowns other sounds out giving his name more than one meaning. He has been an icon to any artist wanting to obtain an entity name thought to be impossible and is considered to have one of the best images in his state. Whitenoise’s life was far from normal. James grew up on the North end of Toledo in an environment that imbued drugs and violence most of his childhood. He was involved in many cases which ultimately led to Lucas County Children Services stepping in and taking him away from his parents at the age of 10. He then got his life turned around when his aunt and uncle took custody of him. He graduated from high school in 2012, and changed his life for the better. Unsure of what he wanted to become in life at first, he fell into confusion that led him to seek his roots. He got a job working for a non-profit organization to intern at a studio known as Reel2Real Studio under the wing of his mentor Hedmac, where he soon met NBMG (North Boy Music Group) and became an important member of their team. He helped them put out many projects, but eventually left to pursue his own solo career. Before meeting NBMG, Whitenoise had his own label hidden in his back pocket. Whitenoise claimed the name of the city and created Glass City Records. He established Glass City Records in 2015 after his first single “419” was released. It wasn’t until the year 2018, Whitenoise stepped away from his position to carry on with his dream of his own label. Whitenoise grew his skills not only as a music composer, but as an all-around artist from his cover art work, to his high-definition photos done by himself. With a name like “Whitenoise”, there were movies, other artists and many other brands using this entity. He managed to claim the username “Whitenoise” on all social media platforms and is now an icon for any musician thinking an idea is impossible. With a revolutionary idea, Whitenoise decided to make Glass City Records not only just an independent record label, but a platform to promote the very artists from the city it represents. Throughout his career, he has helped multiple people with their music business. As his empire expands, he has made it a foundation and gateway for the music industry in Toledo. With the knowledge he developed over the years. He can turn anyone into a unique entertainer. He went rogue for years since his first release to focus on his marketing and online presence capabilities. He knew the competency of being able to do this would lead to his success. Whitenoise is not only just a rapper but a one man army when it comes to label management. He obtained his business LLC and trademark on his own. Aside from making music he is a very creativity and inspiring individual with a purpose. Whitenoise is currently working on his debut album with an unreleased title. His hit single “I Have Spoken” is set to be released the summer of 2020. His return has been long awaited and now that he has gained access to the rights of Whitenoise, his return will be the most authentic he has ever been. Whitenoise’s dream is to live forever through his music and inspire others to follow their path on who they want to become. Whitenoise’s most famous quote is, “I am just a sound wave to be heard for generation to come, I am the static in your screens, I will live forever. Read more on Last.fm.
