Loophole - The Biography ----------------------------- "Loophole are assault by soundscape; shimmering, rippling guitars underneath vocals which alternate between a looping howl and a tuneful spitting, everything played extremely loud and crashing into the audience at full force" - www.Drownedinsound.com ______________________________________________ Loophole are... Mike Avent - Bass, Vocals Robbie Jarvis - Drums, Percussion John Young - Guitars, Vocals Ben Sydes - Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards Formed in late 2000. Band spent 2001 writing material that would be hurled upon crowds in 2002 including many gigs on the Cambridge scene such as the Boatrace, and the Portland Arms. Loophole conceived their first recording in summer 2001. A five-track demo entitled "Better Waste of Your Time"; it delivered the band's distinctive song writing to the world. Melodic and haunting yet gritty and challenging, reviews have elevated the band's progress. In 2002 they reached the final of the Ely Band Competition, where they picked up an award for best vocalist. Kicking off 2003 New Year the band had a four-day recording session to produce their new three-track demo, “The Shimmer E.P”. This was sold at their biggest gig at the time: The Junction in Cambridge, a venue they have returned to several times since. Loophole made it through to the last 16 of the Cambridge Band Competition and the short list for the 'No Competition' run by 'ADeC' and 'The Junction' with nominations in both 'Best Album/E.P' and 'Best Website' in February 2003. Clearly indicating that the local area was beginning to show an awareness of their presence. The band have been playing gigs for Cambridge promoters Green Mind and 'R*E*P*E*A*T' and reached the final of the St.Ives band competition in September. Also a support slot with Midasuno who were voted "Best New Welsh Act". 2004 brought about label interest, appearances in NME, The Fly and supports slots with signed acts on nationwide tours such as Mohair and The Broken Family Band. The band also managed midway through the year to put enough money together to buy some recording equipment and drove headlong into sessions. The bands plan for 2005 is simple. Play anywhere, everywhere, as much as we can whilst recording and getting the new material out. Its only February and band have already played a number of gigs including their first in London, appeared on a compilation, with another one planned and have a new site ready to be launched in the very near future.
