There are at least four bands called Illicit: A dutch Hip Hop band, a New Zealand rock band, an Australian Metalcore band, a peruvian psychedelic band and a Welsh melodic hardcore band. 1. Dutch Hip Hop Band Illicit: ILLICIT hip hop. It’s a free spirited and versatile combination of tight instrumentalism & visionary wordplay. The five boys (Bram Hakkens on Drums, Freek Cerutti on bass guitar, Pieter de Graaf on keys, Principle on guitar & ParAdoX on the mic) from Utrecht, Netherlands have finally been signed, sealed and delivered. Since 2002, Their soulful tunes already entered countless bedrooms and their raw beats already shook many venues and festivals (for instance North Sea Jazz & Brussels Jazzmarathon). But now, the first official ILLICIT record is here. Cheap Propaganda is a schizophrenic piece of work. The compositions and lyrics remind one of The Roots, Common or Outkast at one point and of Prince and Sly Stone at the next. Drums, Bass, keys, guitar and raps have been entwining for four years now. And it’s about time sound systems around the world got a taste of it all. Blessed with some guest scratching by DJ Sjam and some guest rhyming by renowned comrade Atactic and legendary Dutch old school crew The Proov, Cheap Propaganda can be described as either a simple experiment or a complex journey, whichever way you’d like to put it, as long as you put it on your top shelf. The German label Pottpeople will be releasing Cheap Propaganda all over The Netherlands in April 2006. Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Austria will follow later this year... www.illicit.nl 2. New Zealand rock band Illicit: http://www.illicitnoise.com Hard hitting live shows, catchy rhythmical riffs, breakdowns, melodies and a passion that goes beyond any sense of normality for what they do – Illicit is a promising young act quickly bleeding their way into the limelight. Based in East Auckland the band consists now of five people who each bring their own uniqueness and individuality to the sound of the band. Rory, Brenton, Kieran, Kasey and Chris have been together for a good four years now developing the sound, stage show and business of the Illicit name. Playing shows in and out of Auckland and doing charity concerts for organizations such as the Red Cross, NZ Kids First and World Vision, has provided the band with a solid fan base and a strong passion to continue doing what they love and using music to help others. With an average age of nineteen these boys take crowds by surprise every chance they get. The band competed in the Primal national battle of the bands NZ Final 2006’ and came away with second place. Illicit also played in the world battle of the bands as regional finalists and somewhere in between their practice and shows have managed to release 2 e.p’s (self titled) and (Read Between the Lines). You can order Read Between The Lines here. Future plans see the band playing at Parachute for the third year, releasing their single and video in 2007 sometime and continuing the growth and development of the band. Illicit is slowly becoming a well-known band throughout Auckland with more and more people coming around to the sound that is growing more diverse every day. 3. Australian Metalcore band Illicit: A five-piece band formed in March of 2009 and based in the city of Brisbane. The band has undergone numerous lineup changes before taking its current form, though both rhythm guitarist Ben Wrigley and lead guitarist Harry Jubb have been core members from the start, forming the band after meeting in high school; noticing a distinct hole needing to be filled in the local music scene. Drummer Christian Rady, vocalist Lloyd Colligan, and bassist Stephen Lee complete the lineup, helping to produce the sound reminiscent of Australia's finest Metalcore acts. The band has gained a rather large and wide fan base, and it is only expected to grow even more following the release of their debut EP titled "Hollow Park", to be released in mid to late September of 2012, before embarking on their tour of the Australian East Coast. http://www.facebook.com/Illicitoz 4.
