Flicker is a name that was and is carried by several bands. (1) Flicker is a loose collective of session musicians who make instrumental pieces for film, TV, computer games and advertising. They are based in Exeter, England. The first Flicker album, 'At Least 1000 Words' was released in 2002 and received praise and accolades from the media at the time. Their subsequent albums, 'HappySad', 'The Snail Gauntlet' and 'The Frumperal Way' are awaiting release and distribution at present. Flicker was started by composer and guitarist George Davies as an outlet for his instrumental pieces that were not used by any of the bands he played with. Other musicians featuring on tracks by Flicker include Dave Danielli, Emma Williams, Lucy Wellsman, Amy McGill, Joe Ings and Tony Price. Flicker is signed to Wud Records and published by Explicit Music. http://www.wudrecords.co.uk/artists/flicker http://www.explicitmusic.co.uk/lyrics-information/flicker (2) The name is currently used by Gareth Cole and Paul Crowley. They've been producing music (House and Tech House) for several years now and have had several releases on various House labels. Their tracks have been championed by the likes of Terry Francis, John Digweed, Nathan Coles, Eddie Richards, Mazi, Jay Tripwire etc. Their first vinyl release was Flipwreck on Plastic City Suburbia in September 2001. Subsequent releases have been on EukaHouse, Gourmet Recordings and Random House. For information on this and all their subsequent releases, see their website: www.flickertracks.com. (3) Flicker was a Sacramento-based rock band that began around 1999. The primarily lineup consisted of 1). Jared Pane (vocals), Shaun Weiss (guitars), Steve Avery (bass), Bill O'Connor (drums), and Scott Simpson (guitar). The band pulled influences from deftones, Far, Quicksand, and Sunny Day Real Estate, creating strong minor-key driven sound. This created a combination of lyrics of longing, heartbreak, and disdain with hard-edged, melodic guitar. It could be seen as a basis for the emotional brand of hardcore and rock that started to gain in popularity in later years from the West Coast. The band fizzled in 2002, leaving vocalist Jared Pane without a band to call his own. After considering an exit from music, he and several other area musicians collaborated on a project that would be known as Track Fighter. Track Fighter has since grown a strong fanbase, performing on the Vans Warped Tour, and releasing several independent albums and EPs. Their debut major-label release, Between Lies and Melodies, has been released on iTunes and will reach store shelves in January 2007 on Hollywood Records. (4) Flicker (Australia) was a project of Bruce Begley (also involved with the Snow Leopards and The Honeys) along with Gina Hearnden. They released an EP in 1993 called "Is That What You Wanna Do?"
